L:A Bruket is a Swedish natural cosmetics brand with deep ties to its home on the west coast.
From soap dish to natural cosmetics
The story began in 2008 in Varberg, a Swedish coastal town with over 200 years of bathing culture. Monica Kylén, a ceramicist and artist, was looking for a good, natural soap for her handmade soap dishes. When she couldn’t find one that met her expectations, she promptly started making soap herself. Together with Mats Johansson, she developed L:A Bruket.
Varberg and its surroundings remain an important source of inspiration to this day. The contrast between a hot sauna and cold seawater, seaweed baths and the rugged natural landscape are part of local tradition. L:A Bruket draws on these rituals and translates them into modern skin and body care. The formulas feature carefully selected plant oils, herbal extracts and natural active ingredients. The care products are made in Sweden and COSMOS NATURAL certified. Sustainability is also firmly rooted in the brand: L:A Bruket is part of the certified B Corporations community.
The distinctive world of fragrance at L:A Bruket
What we particularly love about L:A Bruket is its feel for fragrance. Monica Kylén developed many of the essential oil blends for body care herself. Her inspiration comes, among other places, from her own herb garden, the forests and the Swedish coast. The result is compositions that can be fresh and herbal, warm and woody, or wonderfully earthy. And they often stay with you for a long time.
With its eau de parfum collection, introduced in 2026, L:A Bruket draws on its connection to nature in a distinctive way. Geosmin plays a special role: that unmistakable earthy smell that rises after a rain shower. Norse mythology also inspires the three fragrances: Övernatur evokes a damp forest floor strewn with pine needles, moss, and spruce resin. Blixt is cooler, more mineral, almost electric—like the air after a thunderstorm, with notes of ozone, wet stone, and warm resin. Dísir, by contrast, is soft and airy, with iris, cool cucumber water, and a delicate steamed-rice accord. Three niche perfumes with very different characters and a shared inspiration: the pristine nature of Scandinavia.
Hand creams, lip care & little rituals
Sometimes, after washing your hands, it’s the scent you look forward to. The hand creams from L:A Bruket are scented with fresh bergamot, sage and rosemary, or warm woody notes. The creams are satisfyingly rich, spread beautifully, and leave dry hands soft. And with so many lovely scents to choose from, it’s not easy to settle on just one. Another favorite is the 017 Lip Balm Almond / Coconut. Its buttery-soft, non-sticky texture deeply nourishes even chapped lips and keeps them moisturized for a long time. There’s also the refreshing SOS Lip Balm with peppermint, the gently orange blossom-scented Goodnight Lip Balm, and a wonderfully rich foot cream.
We also like the products’ design: simple tubes, clear typography, no unnecessary embellishments. They suit a brand rooted in craftsmanship that still places great importance on how a product feels, how it smells, and how much you enjoy using it every day.
