Marie Duschek is the founder of dieHaarbanduschi. Marie is from Fulda, and sewing has been a constant companion since her school days. “As a child, I loved sewing with my grandma. Since July 2017, I’ve been happily married to my husband Lennart. Together, we have two delightful children, Lieselotte and Fritz, and a little Maltipoo, Lilly. In 2019, I had an unfortunate fall and tore a ligament. It was really unfortunate at first, but it gave me time to sew again. Originally, I only wanted to sew hairbands for myself—hairbands that wouldn’t pinch or slip. But when my friends liked them so much, the idea for dieHaarbanduschi grew. How did the name come about? My dear husband suggested it as a joke, and I loved it right away!”

The headbands, hairbands, and Scrunchies are made in Fulda. The cores for the headbands are made using 3D printing and then covered with fabric by hand. Cutting, sewing, and finishing all take place locally. The brand uses recycled plastic for its headband cores and values in-house production.

No matter how many trends come and go, headbands and hairbands always seem to stick around. And that’s been true for a long time. Headbands have been worn as hair ornaments or functional accessories since ancient times. Hairbands kept hair in place, while laurel wreaths and diadems were worn as adornments and symbols of rank. A look at old movies quickly shows that headbands were already very much in fashion by the middle of the last century. Sometimes classic and simple, sometimes decorated with pearls, and sometimes in the rockabilly style. Headbands have kept up with many fashion trends right through to the modern day, and thanks to Coco Chanel and Prada, this accessory has even made it onto the runways.

Quick to put on, simple, and practical too—as stylish accessories, they make your hair styling an eye-catcher, add a lovely accent to your outfit, or quickly fix a bad hair day.
