Sonya Driver is the founder of Eco By Sonya. Having grown up on Australia’s Gold Coast, Sonya was always accompanied by the sun.
Sonya always knew that getting a tan without skin-damaging UV rays was the better alternative. After her sister had to have a malignant melanoma removed, her resolve to make a change grew.
She tried various self-tanners and took a closer look at the ingredients. She quickly stopped using these products because she wasn’t convinced by their formulas. That was the starting point for Eco by Sonya self-tanners. She began experimenting with cocoa, flower essences, chamomile, and other natural ingredients. The rest is history: In 2011, Eco Tan became the first Australian self-tanning line to be certified organic by the Organic Food Chain. Highlights include the now legendary Eco by Sonya Face Tan Water, Glory Oil, and Organic Coconut Body Milk.
Sonya Driver: “It’s what we don’t use that sets us apart. Eco Tan is a company founded on authenticity and transparency. That’s why certifications are extremely important to us.” The self-tanning line is certified by the Organic Food Chain; the brand is also recognized by PETA for its commitment to opposing animal testing. Many products are vegan. Sonya’s advice: Read labels carefully, research ingredients, always use sun protection, and don’t fall for easy advertising claims!
